Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, recently released on July 21, 2007, is undoubtedly the most widely-anticipated book of the year, completing Harry’s seven-year journey through the wizarding world to confront his nemesis Lord Voldemort, along with a host of other issues. With any finale of such a monumental and popular series, there are bound to be victories, disappointments, criticisms, and praise for nearly every plot decision made by the author. The final product, though, is a remarkable end to the Harry Potter series, and a fitting conclusion to the problems raised in the previous books.

After reading the previous book, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, numerous plot lines had been developed that left me worried about J. K. Rowling’s ability to wrap them all up neatly and provide a satisfying conclusion in one more book. The issue of Harry Potter finding the remaining Horcruxes in the space of one book, while it had taken the previous six to locate and destroy only two Horcruxes seemed the most pressing issue. Additionally, the fact that no one, including Harry and Dumbledore, were quite sure what the Horcruxes were and where they would be located presented an even more apparent problem. Furthermore, Rowling used the theme of the Deathly Hallows to further the plot, and spent much time examining Harry’s attempts to understand such universal themes as how to deal with death and the search for truth. more…

Everyone has had the experience of buying an electronics product which is now obsolete or the company has gone out of business. What can you do when this happens? Well if you have a Cam Doctor cam measuring system (cam profiler) you do have an option. There is a company that can retro fit your system with new components to bring it back to life.

Sometimes you have a system that has been working for 10 to 20 years. Then one day it is no longer working. Or with the Cam Dr, which only works on old DOS computers, you can no longer find one of these old DOS computers. The last thing you want to do is throw it out and buy a new cam profiler. You can save yourself thousands of dollars if you use some of the old parts and just buy some new items that will get it up and running again. more…

Your koi needs an environment that is clean and healthy for them to grow to their maximum potential. If you think that having a few water plants and a waterfall in your pond is enough, you are greatly mistaken.

You also need pond filters. Without proper filtration, your koi pond starts to turn green and becomes a breeding ground for parasites and bacteria which may eventually kill your koi.

There are essentially two types of koi pond filters. Firstly, the mechanical filter. This type of filter is to remove solid matter and debris from your koi pond such as fallen leaves, sand, dead algae and insects, koi waste etc. The type of mechanical filter I’d recommend is the type that employs a vortex system. This typically consists of a conical chamber that draws solid waste into its funnel where it is drained away into a settlement chamber at the bottom for removal. Be sure, however to choose a vortex system of an appropriate size for your pond. more…

Most cats are easy to train but there are some that are just not open to the idea of keeping in line with the rules you impose in your own house. There is always one cat that will refuse to follow anything you train him or her to do. If this is your situation, you have a big hurdle ahead of you. But if you know how to train a cat properly, you will be fine.

Cats, by reputation, are independent and stubborn. They are also known for being very particular about where they expel their waste. They can only do it in a certain type of place and this place has to be somewhere they like. This is why they like litter boxes. If you train your cats to use the litter box, they will continue using it as long as you keep it clean. more…

Cats are one of the easiest pets to have inside your home. They are comforting, friendly, and easy to snuggle up to, pet, and fall in love with. Yet, in order to make your pet happy within your home and be happy with them there as well, you must be aware of cat health questions that most owners will face at some point along the way.

While new owners must become familiar with very common health concerns such as how to keep a litter box sanitary and when to take the pet in for vaccinations, there are still many questions about feline health that most owners can’t get answers for easily. Let’s take a quick look at 3 of the questions you may be pondering as an owner.

Can cats take painkillers?

If your cat were to somehow get injured and appeared to be in severe pain, what would you do? This is a common issue with cat owners, because this species of pet is very good at hiding signs of pain. Some pets actually have to be in severe pain for it to really be obvious, but you can assume there is pain if they are less active, hiding, or just not acting like themselves after an accident or mishap of some sort.

The answer is to go to the vet and ask about appropriate pain medications for your pet. Pain killers were once considered unsafe and downright dangerous to felines, but there are some kinds now that have proven to be safe and effective.

Can diseases be passed from cats to humans?

It is hard for many owners to even entertain the idea that their beloved pet could actually pass a disease or health condition to their own body. The truth is there are some feline diseases and conditions that can in fact be passed to humans.

This doesn’t mean that you have to get rid of your cat to be safe. You just have to take proper care of every animal in your household. Care includes making sure they are vaccinated on schedule, cleaning the litter box properly and routinely, and maintaining a regular grooming schedule.

How long will my cat live?

Cats have relatively short life spans compared to humans, though they are living longer today than ever before. If you care for your cat properly they may live twenty years or more. Of course, felines can suffer from many of the same health conditions that lead to human deaths, such as cancer.

The typical age at death is around 9, but it is entirely possible for a healthy, well cared for cat to live much longer today.

In the end, there is a lot of care required to keep your cat friends healthy and happy, but the happiness and peace that they bring into the home far outweighs this issue. Just make sure to familiarize yourself with other common cat health questions so you are more knowledgeable for whatever comes up in the future with your pet.

If you’re wondering how to treat crystals in a dog’s bladder, then your dog may have been recently diagnosed or is dealing with recurring issues. Since bladder stones can be excruciatingly painful and can cause other much more serious problems, it is important to attend to them right away. In this article, you’ll learn how.

Before we talking about the steps to treating crystals in a dog’s bladder effectively, let’s talk briefly about bladder stones. Also called urinary stones, bladder crystals or struvite crystals, these blockages are made of minerals that block the urethra and make it painful and difficult to urinate. Since this is how the body eliminates toxins, this is a condition that can be very dangerous.

How to Treat Crystals In a Dog’s Bladder

The formation of bladder stones can be prevented by making sure the bladder has the proper pH levels. The steps below will ensure that proper pH levels are maintained.

  • Feed your dog healthy, organic food. Junk food kibble (which includes most popular brands) is full of additives and preservatives that can compromise the pH of the bladder, inviting the formation of bladder stones and a proliferation of bacteria. Read the label on your dog food. It should read “chicken,” instead of “chicken by products” and should not be full of unhealthy grains, like corn meal.
  • Healthy dog food is more expensive, but your dog will need to eat less because your pet will be satisfied more quickly by the high nutrient content. Also, you will have fewer vet bills because your pet will be eating food that gives his body the nutrients it needs to stop problems before they start.
  • Give your pet plenty of fresh clean water. Water flushes toxins from the body, preventing a buildup of poisons. Make sure to give your dog filtered water, so any chemicals used by the city water system have been removed. Chemicals are not good for us and they’re not good for dogs.
  • Make sure your dog gets a daily walk and play time in your yard. Exercise relieve stress and invites a return of playfulness. This is just as important for you as it is for your dog.
  • Give your dog a daily supplement to promote bladder health. Since the bladder is responsible for elimination of toxins from the body, it is essential to keep it running smoothly and make sure the pH of the bladder is always at the proper levels.
